This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. UH Hilo has been selected along with UH Manoa and the University of Guam to form the Pacific Island Climate Science Center.
The center will be one of eight regional facilities established by the U.S. Department of the Interior and will involve university as well as federal personnel. It will provide land managers in federal, state and local agencies with access to the best science available concerning climate change and other situations impacting the nation's natural and cultural resources.
UH Hilo head Don Price said the partnership will focus on the impact of climate change on the unique biodiversity of the Pacific region. A longer term goal of the Center will be developing stronger collaborations between the University and federal, state and non-government agencies in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.
