This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy has announced that UH Hilo’s Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy Dean John Pezzuto will be honored with its top award at the group’s annual meeting in July. The 2014 Volwiler Research Achievement Award will recognize his outstanding research and contributions to the field of natural product drug discovery.
Pezzuto is widely known for identifying the cancer-prevention aspects of resveratrol, a chemical found in grapes and grape products. He has spent more than 35 years in academia, amassing more than 500 publications, co-invented several patents and serves as editor-in-chief of Pharmaceutical Biology.
AACP Executive Vice-President and CEO Lucinda Maine described Pezzuto’s research as “world renowned with the potential to affect the health of millions not only now, but in the future.”
