This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.

Are there planets other than Earth where life can exist? And How do we discover them? Dr. Olivier Guyon, an astronomer and project scientist at the Subaru Telescope will address those questions at a free, public presentation on campus, Saturday, February 23, at 7:00 p.m. in UCB Room 100.

For the past decade, the 2012 MacArthur “Genius Grant” Fellowship recipient has worked on the development and testing of instruments for ground and space-based telescopes that can directly image exoplanets outside of the Solar System where life might exist.

Guyon will describe recent and future technologies that are meeting the challenges of studying exoplanets, and discuss how the broader community can take part in their discovery.
