This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.

The 6th annual Ocean Day Hawaiʻi Malama Kanaloa Festival will be held this year on Saturday February 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Due to ongoing construction at the Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resources Center, this year’s event will be held at Hilo Bayfront Beach Park.

Ocean Day is focused on increasing awareness of ocean and coastal issues such as conservation, sustainable use of resources and water safety through fun, interactive displays, activities and booths. Family-friendly activities include fishing games, marine touch tanks, face painting, poi-pounding, makahiki games plus live music, hula and food booths. The event also provides the community an opportunity to learn about ongoing research, related college programs and careers, and to network with others who want to work together to care for our ocean communities.
