This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
The Adopt-A-Beehive with Chef Alan Wong program has added a new twist in its second season to promote even more local sustainability. The program raises honey bee awareness through financial support for UH Hilo beekeeping courses, scholarships for beekeeping students and public events. Funding is provided by donors, who adopt a hive at the UH Hilo agricultural farm that is managed by a beekeeping student and includes monthly updates to the donor on the progress of the hive.
This year, the program has placed an adopted hive on a farm and presented an adopted hive to a second grade class at E.B. De Silva Elementary School, the home of the super bees.
