This is the UH Hilo report. News about people, events and programs at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo. Spring break is a time of rest and relaxation for some students. For others, it’s a time for learning about Hawai'i's unique environment and community by working to preserve and protect it.
Break Thru Adventures is an eco-service program that supports students, staff, and faculty throughout the islands in a drug and alcohol-free setting. BTA members have volunteered with agencies and organizations like The Nature Conservancy, The National and State Park Systems, National Wildlife Refuges, and other environmental non-profit organizations.
Students typically work four of the seven days at their respective sites. The days are long and the work is physical, not glamorous. But the activity is fun, promotes empowered citizenship, environmental sustainability and an appreciation for the Hawaiian culture.
