The Spatial Data Analysis and Visualization Lab in the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies provides spatial technology research and educational services and has pioneered the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for research.

Past and current projects include repeat UAV overflights of the Pahoa lava flow, soil erosion estimates in overgrazed and burned areas, early-detection of invasive vegetation species like Miconia, and a new GIS dataset and report on the state’s commercial agricultural footprint.
