Noted Solomon Islands poet reading at UH Hilo
The public is invited to an Evening of Poetry with Jully Makini, a noted Solomon Islands poet, writer and environmentalist on Thursday, October 28 at 6 p.m. in the University of Hawaii at Hilo Campus Center 313.
Makini is from Gizo in the Western Solomon Islands and has published two poem collections: Civilized Girl and Praying Parents (under the name Jully Sipolo). She has also edited a collection of Solomon Islands women’s writing : Mi Mere and Roviana Custom Stories Book. She currently coordinates capacity building for the World Wildlife Fund in the Solomons.
Makini’s reading is sponsored by the UH Hilo Departments of Geography, Anthropology, English, Pacific Studies, and the Keaholoa STEM Program.
