For Immediate Release

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Center for Global Education and Exchange presents a two-part presentation on the Inter-American Foundation (IAF) beginning October 20, 2010.

A 20-item photo exhibit on loan from the Inter-American Foundation will be on display from October 20th – November 22nd at the Edwin H. Mookini Library. The photographs feature people and locations where the IAF has been engaged.

On Wednesday, November 3rd, a presentation and reception will be held at 11:30 a.m. in UCB 127 featuring Paula Durbin, IAF’s director of publications and fellowships. A graduate of UH Mānoa’s Richardson School of Law, Durbin will present a slide show that includes a brief background on the creation of the IAF, its mission and development of its approach to grass-roots development.

“We’re very pleased to have Paula Durbin come to UH Hilo to discuss the work of the Inter-American Foundation,” said Chancellor Donald Straney. “This is a special opportunity to learn first-hand of the success of a world class international program.”

The IAF event is designed to promote global awareness among students and the community by demonstrating first-hand how the organization has had a major impact on alleviating poverty and improving human conditions in Central and South America. Created by Congress in 1969, the IAF strives to strengthen bonds of friendship among people, advance self-help and enhance opportunities for endemic development.

The event is co-sponsored by the UH Hilo Chancellor`s Office, Art Department, Campus Center, and International Student Services. For more information, contact Carolina Lam at 933-8810.
