For Immediate Release
The Women’s Center at the University of Hawaii at Hilo is co-sponsoring the 30th anniversary tour appearance of legendary songwriter Cris Williamson, Sunday, March 18, at 7 p.m. at the Palace Theater, 38 Haili Street in downtown Hilo. A limited number of $15 student tickets are available at the UH Hilo Women’s Center.
The legendary singer/songwriter’s timeless classic, The Changer and the Changed, became one of the best-selling independent releases of all time, selling nearly a million copies and established Williamson as a guiding voice in the women’s movement. Her politically and socially conscious music would become known as “women’s music,” music which was created and performed by women and marketed specifically to women.
Joining Williamson for her Big Island appearance are fellow recording artist and producer Teresa Trull, Windham Hill Grammy-nominated artist Barbara Higbie and Vicki Randle from the Tonight Show Band.
Williamson’s Hilo performance is a special National Women’s History Month event. National co-sponsors include Ms. Magazine and The National Center for Lesbian Rights. The program is also supported by the UH Commission on the Status of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer or Questioning Equity.
