Na Pua No`eau, the Center for Gifted and Talented Native Hawaiian Children, is currently accepting applications for its Summer Institute 2005 program, to be held June 19-July 2, 2005 for students in grades 6 – 12. The two-week residential program is offered at the University of Hawaii at Hilo or the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. The application deadline is March 31, 2005.
Classes being offered include: “Talking Rocks,” which uses technology of today to understand technology of the past while investigating Hawaiian volcanoes; “Kaha Ki`i `Aina - Seeing Hawai`i,” where students learn how closely Hawai`i's plants, weather and ocean are connected and what they can do to protect these resources; “Voyage across the Universe” is the celebration of 100 years of relativity by exploring its uses around Earth, in space and at the beginnings and end of time itself; and “`Ikena Kalaelae” or Hawaiian carving, teaches students to open their senses to the art of Hawaiian carving using their own creative expression.
Call the Na Pua No`eau office at 974-7678 for more information.
