For Immediate Release
A performance of Part I of Handel’s great oratorio MESSIAH will be presented in the University of Hawaii at Hilo Theatre on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, 2004. Professor Ken Staton will conduct the chorus and orchestra in both performances.
A community chorus is being organized specifically for this performance and will begin rehearsals on Sunday afternoon, September 26, from 2-4:30 pm in the Rehearsal Room of the music building on the UH Hilo campus. Subsequent rehearsals will be held at the same time on Sunday afternoons: October 3; October 31; November 7 and November 28. The final rehearsal, with orchestra, will be on Saturday, December 4 from 1:30-3:30 pm. The concert will take place that evening at 7:30 pm and again on Sunday, December 5, at 4:00 pm.
“All interested singers are invited to be a part of the chorus,” Staton said. “If you’ve sung MESSIAH before you will find the five rehearsals should be sufficient to ‘re-learn’ the music. If you’ve never sung MESSIAH before, you will find that learning the choruses in only five rehearsals will be a challenge. Personal practice in addition to the regular chorus rehearsals will be required. A limited number of song-learning materials will be available.”
Singers are asked to bring their own copy of the music. A copy may also be borrowed at the first rehearsal.
For more information and/or a copy of the rehearsal schedule, please email Staton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
