Rodriquez recipient of Fred Tom scholarship

A senior majoring in tropical horticulture at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo is the recipient of the $500 Frederick K.T.
Tom Memorial Scholarship, announced Dr. Michael Collier, dean of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management.
Christina Rodriquez was selected based on her scholastic achievements. She transferred to UH Hilo in Fall 2002 from Colorado and plans to graduate in Fall 2004 with a bachelor's degree in tropical horticulture as well as a certificate in the plant tissue culture program. Rodriquez has maintained a 4.0 grade point average since her arrival at UH Hilo and attributes her success "to the very educated and knowledgeable
professors in the College of Agriculture."
The scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of Dr. Fred Tom, UH Hilo's first dean of the College of Agriculture, to assist full-time students in the completion of their studies. Tom was dean from 1976 to 1981, and passed way in June 1993.
