For Immediate Release
Nominations are now being accepted for the University of Hawai`i at Hilo Distinguished Alumni Award. The award, which recognizes outstanding former students of the UH Hilo system, is one of the most prestigious awards a UH Hilo graduate or former student can receive. The nomination deadline is Friday, February 15, 2002.
This year's selection is being done in conjunction with the UH Hilo Athletic Department, and will be incorporated with the annual Athletic Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the UH Hilo Dining Hall.
Individuals are eligible for nomination if they have received a degree from UH Hilo, or completed 50 percent of their educational program at UH Hilo. Selection will be based on materials submitted by the nominator, with consideration given to the areas of service to UH Hilo, service to the community, or professional accomplishments.
Past winners include Dr. Naleen Naupaka Andrade, who earned her bachelor of arts degree in biology at UH Hilo in 1976. Andrade, who went on to receive a master's degree in 1982, currently chairs the Department of Psychiatry at UH Manoa's John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Nomination forms are available at the UH Hilo display in the Prince Kuhio Plaza, Bank of Hawai`i, First Hawaiian Bank, or online at hilo.hawaii.edu. Nominators are responsible for submitting all nomination materials, including a summary of the nominee's accomplishments and supporting documents.
