The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy presents its sixth annual Health Fair on Saturday, October 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Prince Kuhio Plaza.
The community is invited to meet student pharmacists and faculty to receive health screenings on blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes (supplies may be limited). The event also will feature a “brown bag” medication check, healthy living demonstrations, as well as informational booths.
For the first four years, the annual health fair was held on campus. Organizers said changing the location to the Prince Kuhio Plaza is a win-win for the community and for the College.
“We are delighted to present our annual event at the mall again this year since it allowed us to reach out and help so many people from all over our community,” said Patricia Uber, co-chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice. “It’s also a good chance for the community to see our bright and talented students face-to-face. Because October is National American Pharmacists Month, it’s especially important for us to show the value of pharmacists on overall health care.”
Other community organizations will be conducting activities, including A Dream Come True Foundation, AlohaCare, Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes, Civil Defense, HIV/AIDS Foundation, Senior Medicare Patrol, Hospice of Hilo, HMSA, Hawaiʻi Health Connector, Healthway, Project Vision Hawaiʻi, Senior Medicare Patrol and The Arc of Hilo.
