For Immediate Release

The University of Hawai`i at Hilo has revised its procedures for adding and dropping classes. The changes take effect this Fall semester.

"We wanted to eliminate any confusion pertaining to add/drop procedures or deadlines," said UH Hilo Registrar Cathy Zenz. "As a result, we've revised and automated the late add-drop period during the second week of classes."

Students may now add classes, on a space-available basis during the first week of instruction, by accessing the WEBSIS at or by calling the telephone registration system at (808) 974-7787. Classes may also be added in closed sections, provided the student pick up a "Permit to Enroll" from any College or Division Office, fill it out, obtain the instructor's signature, return the form to the Division Office, and then access the WEBSIS or telephone registration system.

Classes may be added in certain cases, during the second week of instruction, subject to the approval of the instructor. But students should not wait until week two before attempting to add a class. Requests to add classes may be declined during this period, if the instructor determines that too much instruction time has been missed.

Class additions must still be registered and dropped classes processed via the WEBSIS or the telephone access system. No fees will be charged for classes added or dropped during the first two weeks of instruction. But changes may result in a tuition refund or additional payment, which must be made by September 16, 2002.

Classes may not be added following the second week of instruction. Students may drop classes until October 18, 2002 using the "Change of Registration" form, but any class dropped after September 13 will result in a Withdrawal ("W") on the student's record. Withdrawals during this period will also be subject to a $5 fee.
