Spend the summer studying in Peru immersed in the language and culture, through the University of Hawai╩╗i at Hilo.

Guides for the Castellano en Per├║ 2011, a business, language and culture tour, are Dr. Thomas DeWitt, professor of marketing at UH Hilo, and Senora Luisa Oldmen. Program dates are from Sunday, May 15 to Sunday, June 12. Participants will be immersed in castellano, the Spanish dialect of Latin America, and will explore the marketing and business strategies that Al Gore called the ÔÇťPeruvian economic miracle.ÔÇŁ

Participants will experience excursions to cultural sites, museums, business communities, markets, churches, and restaurants, and through class and study sessions, compare experiences and exchanges for a keener perception of a global community. Visits include colonial Lima, Huacachina, and Cusco, the sacred Valley of Urubamba and Machu Picchu.

Students will earn six semester credits in Spanish 194, Conversation Spanish, and Marketing 394, Consumer Behavior in Latin America. The program is suitable for students of all backgrounds and majors.

A $500 non-refundable deposit is required. Application deadline is February 4, 2011. The program fee of $4,833 includes tuition, all accommodations, in-country transportation, most meals, excursions and activities. International airfare is not included, but a discounted airfare of $1,131.70 is available for the first 13 who apply. Out-of-state students pay the same as Hawai╩╗i residents. Scholarships and financial aid are available.
