Tips for Searching

• Click on the related subject headings in the catalog record to find all other materials that are cataloged under the same subject.
• Use quotation marks around phrases (e.g., “Sustainable Agriculture”, “Tropical Horticulture”) to focus the search.
• Use the truncation symbol (asterisk * ) to search for variations of a word. For example: agricultur* will find agriculture, agricultural, agriculturalist, and agriculturalists.

Hawaiʻi Pacific Resources

• County of Hawaiʻi Research and Development: Agriculture and Food Systems - The Agriculture Program provides facilitative leadership to both the public and private sectors to support the sustainable development of agriculture, forestry, aquaculture, and other natural resources. Activities include financial support and coordination of agricultural research, education, and marketing programs; data collection, compilation and dissemination to County policymakers and other interested parties; management of collaborative research and development projects; advocacy for local farmers and commodity groups at State and Federal levels.
• Go Farm Hawaiʻi - Originally known as the Agribusiness Incubator Program (AIP), the program was formed in 2003 at the University of Hawaiʻi College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (UH CTAHR). Designed to support the business needs of Hawaiʻi’s local agriculturalists, the program provided one-on-one business consulting and technical assistance to agricultural producers throughout the state
• Hawaiʻi Agriculture Research Center - Organization specializing in horticultural crop research, including agronomy and plant nutrition, plant physiology, breeding, genetic engineering and tissue culture, and control of diseases and pests through integrated pest management. In addition to serving Hawaiʻi's agricultural industries through research and technology transfer to Hawaiʻi’s producers.
• Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau - The Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau is a grassroots non-profit organization founded by Hawaiʻi farmers and ranchers and working with organizations, communities and individuals involved in all aspects of the Agricultural Industry in Hawaiʻi. The Hawaiʻi Farm Bureau is organized to unify the County Farm Bureaus, thereby enhancing the knowledge, economic opportunity, prosperity, well being and happiness of its members; to analyze and resolve the problems that face agriculture through effective cooperation, planning and representation; to promote farmers’ and ranchers’ access to the physical, financial, intellectual, and human resources necessary for successful and profitable agriculture; and to ensure the protection and health of Hawaiʻi’s agricultural resources and the environment today and in the future.
• Hawaiʻi Organic Farming Association - The Hawaiʻi Organic Farming Association is a non-profit organization that provides education about organic farming and sustainability in Hawaii.
• Journal of Hawaiʻi and Pacific Agriculture - An E-Journal of Agricultural Research. Includes manuscript submission information. Located on the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management website.
• Oʻahu Soil and Water Conservation Districts - [Their] mission is, “to coordinate and facilitate partners and governmental agencies in identifying and implementing projects and practices with cultural sensitivity to assure the protection of Hawaiʻi’s environment.”
• State of Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture - The Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture’s (HDOA) 268 employees statewide work to support, enhance, promote, and protect Hawaiʻi’s agriculture and aquaculture industries. [They] work to create and maximize opportunities for exporting; and facilitate growth of existing and new agricultural commodities and value-added products. In addition, the department works to prevent the introduction and establishment of plants, animals and diseases that are detrimental to the state’s agriculture industry and the environment.

Libraries

Hawaii State Public Library System

Hawaii State Public Library System - The only statewide library system in the United States with 51 locations across the state. Search online catalog for resources and materials found in the library system. A valid HSPLS library card is required to log in to request physical items and to access e-materials and databases.

National Agricultural Library - The National Agricultural Library (NAL) is one of five national libraries of the United States. It houses one of the world’s largest collections devoted to agriculture and its related sciences.

About the Mookini Library

The Edwin H. Mookini Library provides support services for both UH Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College. We're located next to the UH Hilo Campus Center.
