What is Prohibited

Hawaiʻi Employment Practices Law, Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes, Chapter 378, Part I, Discriminatory Practices, as amended

Discrimination in employment (including hiring, firing, and other terms and conditions of employment) based on race, sex, sexual orientation, age religion, color, ancestry, disability, marital status, arrest and court record, National Guard Participation or assignment of income for child support obligations. Labor organizations, employment agencies, and apprenticeship agreements are also covered by this law.

Covers all employees and applicants for positions.

How is a Complaint Made?

A charge of discrimination is initiated by contacting the Hawaiʻi Civil Rights Commission to complete a pre-complaint questionnaire.

What is the Time Limit?

180 days.
