Elementary

Note: Each of the below courses must be passed with a grade of "C" or better. Content Preparation courses, in combination, must be passed with a 2.75 GPA or better.

Content Preparation Requirements for ALL Elementary TEP Students (15 semester hours)

  • ED 341, Literacy Development in Elementary Schools (3 semester hours)
  • ED 343, Math for Elementary School Teachers (3 semester hours)
  • ED 347, Integrated Science/Social Studies for Elementary Teachers (3 semester hours)

Content Preparation Electives for Elementary TEP students

  • ED 346, Teaching Children's Literature (3 semester hours)
  • DNCE 419, Dance in Education (3 semester hours)
  • MUS 419, Music for Elementary Teachers (3 semester hours)

Secondary Social Studies (History, Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology)

Note: Content preparation courses, in combination, must be passed with a 2.75 GPA or better.

  • World History (6 credits): Hist 151 (World History: To 1500) and Hist 152 (World History: From 1500)
  • United States (3 credits - choose only one of the following courses): Hist 380 (U.S. History (1620-1789), Hist 381 (U.S. History (1790-1865), Hist 382 (U.S. History (1866-1929), or Hist 383 (1930-1980)
  • Hawaiʻi (3 credits - choose only one of the following Hawaii-focused courses): Anth 386 (Hawaiian Culture before 1819), Anth 387 (Modern Hawaiian Culture: 1819-Present), Geog 332 (Geography of the Hawaiian Islands), Hist 274 (History of Hawaii), Hist 332 (Hawaiian Kingdom), or Hist 333 (Twentieth Century Hawaii)

Non-English Majors seeking English Licensure (Speech Communication, Journalism, and Related Majors)

Note: Content preparation courses, in combination, must be passed with a 2.75 GPA or better.

Pre-Survey Requirements (9 semester hours)

Choose all from the courses below

  • One English 200, A-F Genre Studies
  • One Additional 200 level writing course
  • Eng 300, Introduction to Literary Studies

Literature Survey (6 semester hours)

Choose one sequence from the courses below:

  • Eng 304-305, Major Works of British Literature (6 semester hours)
  • Eng 351-352, Survey of American Literature (6 semester hours)

Other Coursework (3 semester hours)

Choose ONE 300 level course or ONE from the following:

  • Eng 382, Teaching Composition (3 semester hours)
  • Eng 492, Teaching Literature (3 semester hours)
  • Eng 324, Modern English Grammar and Usage(3 semester hours)

Note: Some of the above courses have prerequisites, thereby adding to the total credit hour admission requirements.
