The UH Hilo Women’s Center serves as a focal point for advocacy efforts designed to impact the campus climate as it relates to the empowerment of women, the encouragement of social justice, leadership and safety for all individuals. The Women’s Center strives to create a place for all students that is safe, collaborative, and welcoming.

The Women’s Center provides the following programs and services:

  • Educational Programs and Activities: Topics focus on issues pertaining to women and gender. Annual activities include National Domestic Violence Month, The Clothesline Project, Take-Back-the-Night, Breast Cancer Awareness, Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues”, National Women’s History Month, National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Safe Zone training, films, lectures and other special events.
  • Direct Services and Resources: The Women’s Center is committed to assisting individuals with issues such as dating and domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, gender discrimination, stalking, suicide and hate crimes though collaboration with many UH Hilo and community resources.
  • Advocacy: The Women’s Center advocates for changes in campus policies, procedures, practices and services that impact women’s educational opportunities and experiences.
  • Leadership, Service and Experiential Opportunities: Students can get involved though internships, practica, volunteer work and student employment, which provides opportunities to develop and improve leadership and professional skills as well as to increase community involvement and personal growth. In addition, the Center houses a resource lending library (books and DVD’s) for students, faculty, and staff.
