Student Medical Services is open Monday through Friday (except holidays), 8:00am to 4:30pm. Part-time physicians are available approximately ten hours per week for general medical care for students. A nurse practitioner provides first aid, health education, advice on caring for illnesses or injuries, counseling on health related problems, tuberculin tests, and routine immunizations. In the event of an accident or emergency, Hilo Medical Center, located a few miles from campus, provides 24-hour emergency care. There are also several urgent care facilities in Hilo that are typically open in the evenings and on weekends.
The Women’s Health Clinic, located within the Medical Services, offers pelvic exams, diagnosis and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, contraceptive methods, emergency contraception, and pregnancy testing and counseling. Services are available to both males and females and are low or no cost to income-eligible students.
