Title:	Gendar and Min Japanese Comics
Description:	Examination of gender and minority issues through a number of Japanese comic stories, or manga, translated into English. Analysis of the selected comic stories is based on a trove of scholarly writings about a protagonists' gender roles as well as Japan's subcultures representing marginalized groups of society. Discussion topics include the influences of manga on the creation of "ideal" men and women and its contribution to the awareness of minorities in Japan from 1960's to the present. Class work does not require the ability to read original Japanese texts. (Same as JPST 382.)
