This class is a basic overview of medical terminology is essential to many fields within the healthcare industries, including coding, case management, clinical trials and health information technology. Using an anatomy and physiology systems approach, this course reviews common terms associated with healthcare delivery and medical record-keeping, as well as medical research and development. Instructed by Donna Stern, BA, MS (in progress), an adult education specialist with more than 25 years’ experience serving adult learners in both private and public sectors. She currently serves as operations manager for several departments within University of California, San Diego Division of Extended Studies, including the healthcare department. Committed to fulfilling the needs of adult learners, Donna has been guiding students through Medical Terminology since 2002 as teaching assistant for the popular one-unit online course. She was selected to review the course textbook before publication of the 4th edition in 2008. Recently Donna revised the curriculum to teach medical terminology in an eight-hour, live format. A strong advocate of lifelong learning, Donna is pursuing a Master of Science degree, with expected completion in 2015.
