Crop Protection Specialization
UHH Home > Academics > College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management > Specializations
This curriculum has been discontinued effective Fall 2011.
By default, all students will be admitted under the catalog in-force at the time they enter UH Hilo; however,
- Students transferring in to UH Hilo from another UH System Campus, are eligible to continue their educational career under the catalog year in which they entered the UH System, provided there has not been a break in enrollment (more than 1 semester, excluding summer). Students may choose to use one catalog for the major requirements and a different catalog for the General Education and Integrative requirements. Eligibility for selected catalog(s) must be verified by the Office of the Registrar.
- All students may choose to graduate under the catalog in effect (exiting catalog) at the time of filing for graduation.
If you and your academic advisor should choose to use another curriculum per
the circumstances above, you must file a completed "Catalog Declaration Form"
with the Office of the Registrar.
General Information
The undergraduate Crop Protection specialization was established in 1988. The Crop Protection student learns to manage a wide variety of plant problems which are detrimental to agriculture production. Since plant problems come from many sources, this curriculum draws its courses from the areas of Entomology, Plant Pathology, Weed Science, and Horticulture. In addition, the student is required to take "production" agriculture courses, as well as biology courses, making the Crop Protection curriculum truly interdisciplinary in scope.
Why Study Crop Protection?
Graduates in Crop Protection can obtain employment with private enterprises or government agencies concerned with plant pest control, crop protection, or environmental protection. In addition, the Crop Protection curriculum has enough flexibility to allow a student to meet the requirements of most graduate schools and thus be able to pursue a graduate degree.
Requirements for Graduation
To earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture with a specialization in Crop Protection, a student must complete a minimum of 123 semester hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0. The course work must be in the following areas:
