Message from the Chancellors on response to the Puna lava flow

Updated at: 8:19am HST, Wednesday, October 1

Here is the October 1 update on our response to the Puna lava flow from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College. The full text of the update at the Puna Lava Flow information website, but here is a quick recap of updates and new information:

UH for Puna Classifieds. Thank you for participating in the UH Puna Classifieds where you can post your housing and transportation needs and others can post what they can provide. Please continue to use this resource if you need assistance or if you can kōkua (help) with an extra room or lodging for our ʻohana (family/community).

Classes. To the faculty: In order to assure that university courses continue as seamlessly as possible in the event the lava flow impacts students and faculty, the UH Hilo Lava Flow Course Support Team has come up with some ways in which, together, you can help students and help each other keep courses on track (PDF). We are presently working internally with our various constituencies to assess their needs and faculty can expect to receive additional information from their vice chancellors on steps they can take to accommodate their students and fellow faculty.

Be Prepared, Stay Informed. Please remain vigilant in your preparation and planning and do not become complacent due to changes in the eruption status.

Representatives from University Housing are ready to assist students as they transition to on-campus living.
